Another hot day at Kingsport Speedway "Concrete Jungle" for another round of NASCAR Advanced Auto Parts racing series. Both our drivers Chase and Colby had solid practices leading up to qualifying. Chase qualified p2 for the 1st race of twin race night in late models and Colby p6 in the sportsman division.
Chase's first race he started on the outside pole and continued side by side racing for the lead with the pole sitter for the first couple of laps till a caution came out on lap 5 for an accident that happen behind them that collected several cars and a lengthy caution. When racing resumed a few laps later the racing got intense once again and another serious accident happened coming out of turn 4 which resulted in a red flag.
When racing resumed and the checkers fell he came home p2. On the second he started p7 due to the 8 car invert rule per NASCAR. Chase with the help of his spotter worked his way to the lead on lap 17 and held off the 15 of Kres Vandyke til 5 to go and Kres got a nose under him and made the pass. When the checkers fell it was another p2 finish of the night.
Colby took the green flag in p6 and immediately showed he was heading towards the front. Colby battled in the top 5 the whole race running as high as p3 before being passed in the closing laps and settled in p4 when the checkers fell. Not only did Colby have a great race he had a great practice and he was all smiles yesterday in the pit area as we finally hit on a set up that he liked and it showed. Colby has had a huge learning curve coming from dirt to asphalt but its all beginning to come together for him and us as a crew.
Thank You to all the fans for supporting your local short track and giving us a place to run week in and week out.
Thank the good Lord above for watching over every driver involved in accidents and especially our dear friend and one of Chase's closet racing friends Derrick Lancaster who was involved in a very scary wreck. Derrick has been here since day 1 giving Chase pointers and help along with his whole crew. Prayers for a speedy recovery. Thank You to our whole crew for everything you do week in and week out at the track for these 2 young men
